Children’s Specialized Hospital Addresses Adverse Childhood Experiences for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Thanks to $90,000 Grant from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey
The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey recently awarded Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation $90,000 in support of a new program at Children’s Specialized Hospital. The goal of this project, which is a partnership between Children’s Specialized Hospital and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, is to identify and support children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the Newark area who have faced adverse childhood experiences.
Thanks to the Marisa Tufaro Foundation, patients and families at PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick were treated to a wonderful, Jersey Shore boardwalk-themed celebration in July. The evening included carnival games, live music, prizes, arts and crafts, a DJ, and summer food favorites in honor of Marisa Tufaro’s 16th birthday.

One local family took their story to Capitol Hill last week to urge Congress to advocate for children with special health care needs across the nation. The Drummond Family, from Piscataway, NJ, joined Children's Specialized Hospital and more than 50 patients and families in Washington, D.C., for the 15th Annual Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Day.
On June 3, 2019 Patrizia's of Red Bank hosted the fifth annual "Miracle Night" fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and raised over $43,000 for local beneficiary, Children's Specialized Hospital, bringing the total raised in five years to over $223,000.

Children’s Specialized Hospital (CSH), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has announced a partnership with Opportunity Project, Inc., a program empowering individuals over the age of 18 with brain injury. The partnership will advance both the strategic direction of Children’s Specialized and enhance the growth of Opportunity Project while increasing access to integrated care and vital support services for those who have experienced a brain injury.

April is national Autism Awareness Month and Children’s Specialized Hospital, New Jersey’s largest provider of services related to autism, is ‘Lighting it Up Blue’ for the entire month to raise awareness and support for the growing number of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Two of the hospital’s sites - Mountainside (150 New Providence Road) and New Brunswick (200 Somerset Ave.) will glow brightly in blue lights to shine light on patients and families living with developmental disabilities including ASD. To raise awareness and early detection, Children’s Specialized Hospital will use part of its grant from Kohl’s Cares to offer free early developmental screenings for children ages one to five years of age.

On Saturday, November 3, Shacknews raised over $100,000 during Extra Life’s gaming marathon for Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. Their team, which was the 4th highest fundraising team in the nation, represents more than half of the $180,000 raised for Children’s Specialized Hospital by the over 640 total gamers that participated in New Jersey.

Raising over $375,000, the proceeds from this year’s Umbrella Gala benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Center for Discovery, Innovation and Development (CDID), whose mission is to develop, innovate, and discover solutions for the advancement of children with special healthcare needs and their families.
