Oct 19, 2018 Walmart and Sam's Club Raise $1 Billion in Support of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals

On October 17, John Lauck, Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, joined Warren E. Moore, FACHE, President and CEO of Children’s Specialized Hospital and Philip Salerno III, President and Chief Development Officer of Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation to celebrate a major fundraising milestone, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, members and customers have raised $1 billion since 1987.

The event took place at Walmart in Edison, NJ, where Walmart and Sam’s Club associates celebrated this major achievement with patients and their families from Children’s Specialized Hospital. In the past 30 years, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, members and customers have raised over $3.5 million for Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation as part of the national campaign.

“Research done by Engage for Good shows that the cumulative $1 billion in cash raised for CMN Hospitals over the years by Walmart and Sam’s Club represents the largest amount ever raised for a nonprofit by one company in North America,” said David Hessekiel, president of Engage for Good, a trade group that tracks cross-sector efforts to generate positive social and business impacts.

“The impact of $1 billion raised by Walmart and Sam’s Club customers, members and associates is hard to fathom,” said John Lauck, president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Because of their generosity, literally millions of kids across the U.S. and Canada are truly living better.”

“We are continually overwhelmed by the bigheartedness of our community during the Walmart and Sam’s Club campaign each September,” said Philip Salerno III, President and Chief Development Officer of Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. “All the associates truly put their hearts into the drive to raise funds for our kids and the impact is tremendous. Children’s Specialized patients and families came here today to celebrate the generosity that has helped to make their specialized care the best available care in New Jersey.”

Funds raised during the campaign help kids like Izzy Rita, who was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor only a week after celebrating her first birthday. At just two years old, she completed 42 rounds of chemotherapy. Through it all, Izzy hasn’t let a tumor define her; instead, she has been brave and a motivator to anyone lucky enough to meet her. Izzy is this year’s Children’s Miracle Networks Hospital’s New Jersey Champion, who, like a true fighter, is now able to achieve anything she puts her mind to thanks in part to Children’s Specialized Hospital. Izzy was excited to be a part of the celebration.

Children’s Specialized Hospital, a nonprofit organization, is leading the way into a brighter future for children and adolescents facing special health challenges – from chronic illnesses and complex physical disabilities like brain and spinal cord injuries, to developmental and behavioral issues like autism and mental health. Working with parents and families, our award-winning doctors, researchers and pediatric specialists depend on the generosity of donors to discover new and innovative ways to help more children overcome their health challenges. All donations go directly to helping us pioneer new specialized children’s care and serve more children in need.
