Children’s Specialized Hospital Creates Ask the Experts Gateway to Address Health Questions of the Community
September 04, 2017
The Ask the Experts Gateway allows families and caregivers to remotely ask questions relating to their child’s behavior, diagnoses, or condition. Once a pediatric specialist responds, both the question and answer are posted to the Children’s Specialized Hospital Ask the Experts page.
Children’s Specialized Hospital serves over 30,000 children with special health needs annually at 13 locations across the state of New Jersey. When caring for a child with special needs, it can be difficult for a parent or caregiver to coordinate appointments and navigate waitlists. Tools such as this will help alleviate some of the common stressors for parents and caregivers by allowing them to communicate with experts before their child’s evaluation.
“This gateway is giving parents the resources they need to identify when to bring their child in for an evaluation or to ask a quick question that might not warrant a dedicated visit to our facilities,” said Christopher Haines, chief medical officer at Children’s Specialized Hospital. “Not only is this innovative technology allowing parents to get quick responses to their child’s condition, but it also helps families experiencing similar challenges find comfort in knowing they are not alone.”
Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Ask the Experts Gateway was made possible thanks to a grant from the Louise Washington Charitable Trust. “We are so thankful that we are able to pursue projects because of philanthropy,” said Beth Anne Dobosh, director of corporate foundation partnerships, Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. “We have already seen an overwhelming response to this gateway. It is clear that there was a need for a platform like this at Children’s Specialized for parents and caregivers, and we are so excited to have been able to bring this vision to life.”
