New York Red Bulls and Starlight Children's Foundation Team Up to Provide Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation with Starlight Fun Centers®

September 28, 2017

New York Red Bull players spent the day at Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick visiting with children and were even challenged to a quick soccer match in the hospital corridors. The players signed signature cards for the children and presented them with official New York Red Bulls soccer balls, which were also autographed.

“He’s fast … but I am too!” said Daquan Hidalgo, a Children’s Specialized Hospital patient, referring to the skills of New York Red Bulls defender, Aaron Long.

The Starlight Fun Center is a mobile entertainment powered by Nintendo offering online access to family friendly video games and movies that provide children and families with distraction and fun during their stay at Children’s Specialized Hospital. Fun centers roll anywhere indoors and are easily integrated into physical therapy and other treatment rooms.

“Our role as Child Life Specialists is to work with children and families to help them cope with the challenges of hospitalization,” said Samantha Adams, Child Life Specialistat PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital. “The Starlight Fun Centers provide an escape from the realities of the hospital environment and bring the healing power of play to our children and families. This in turn helps minimize stress and fear, allowing patients to achieve the best possible outcome.”

“This is a terrific opportunity to spread the message of our hospital and spread some cheer to our children,” said Philip Salerno, III, president and chief development officer, Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. “We’re grateful for the New York Red Bulls and Starlight Children’s Foundation teaming up to show their tremendous commitment to children and families facing special health challenges.”

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to put smiles on the faces of the children at PSE&G Children's Specialized Hospital," said Christina Giunta Quarino, Senior Director of Field Marketing & Community Relations. "Thanks to our valued partner Speedway for their generosity in helping to provide state-of-the-art mobile entertainment for these children."

“Entertainment and distraction are so important for children undergoing difficult or painful medical treatments, and we’re incredibly grateful to the Red Bulls for helping us support kids at Children’s Specialized Hospital through the Starlight Fun Center program.” said Amy Stillion, Vice President, Partnerships and Programs at Starlight Children’s Foundation.
