Mountainside, NJ: Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation received a $25,000 grant from Investors Foundation to support renovations within the hospital’s Special Needs Primary Care center, in Mountainside, NJ.
Special Needs Primary Care (SNPC) at Children’s Specialized Hospital aims to provide high quality, family-centered, pediatric primary care to children with complex physical and mental health needs and their siblings. This “hub” of care changes primary care into what families need it to be - accessible, comprehensive, coordinated, compassionate, and culturally appropriate.
SNPC allows families to access primary care and specialty services in one location, thereby reducing the need to visit multiple specialists. It is the only organization that serves both children with special needs and their siblings; one primary care physician can provide consistent care to all children in the same family, and is available on-call 24 hours a day.
“We are grateful to be forming an alliance with Children’s Specialized Hospital as the institution marks its 125th anniversary of service to families and communities,” said John Nietzel, Senior Vice President of Business Banking at Investors Bank. “The grant from Investors Foundation is helping the hospital expand its facilities that will provide more children with greater access to the complex medical care that they need and deserve. We are honored to be supporting this caring healthcare organization.”
This grant helps underwrite the costs of creating new exam rooms and ancillary spaces, directly impacting the ability to serve more children in need. This expansion will allow the hospital to recruit additional physicians, and will create:
- Four additional exams rooms
- One nursing assessment room
- One physician and one staff office
- A waiting room for physiatry services
- One nursing assessment room for physiatry services
- Well and sick waiting areas
This expansion will greatly improve the practice’s efficiency, as the hospital will be able to centralize providers, nurses, and staff, therefore, enhancing the team-based approach to care.
SNPC is a unique program available only at Children’s Specialized Hospital. Through a team approach, the practice offers comprehensive medical care as well as case management, health education, diagnostic studies, and access to other specialists and providers of vital equipment, integrating a patient’s care both within the practice and through specialists and hospitals outside. Children’s Specialized Hospital is uniquely qualified to perform this service, as the first and only hospital dedicated to children with special healthcare needs in New Jersey certified as a Patient Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. Children’s Specialized Hospital currently serves as the primary care provider for over 2,000 children.
"We are so fortunate to have strong corporate partners like Investors Foundation,” said Beth Anne Dobosh, Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships at Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. “Their commitment to nonprofit organizations in their communities is first class. Children's Specialized is beyond grateful for the opportunity that they have afforded us to expand access to some of the most medically complex children in our area."
