Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation Walk n’ Roll Raises Over $200,000 to Support Children with Special Healthcare Needs
May 22, 2017
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ: Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation hosted its 11th annual Walk n’ Roll on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Johnson Park in Piscataway, New Jersey.
The annual Walk n’ Roll was the official wrap up of the hospital’s 125th anniversary yearlong celebration. Despite the heavy rain, over 1,800 kids, parents, community members, and hospital staff showed their support by raising over $200,000 for Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation to fund cardiac monitors in the hospital’s inpatient centers.
Participants enjoyed a 1 or 5k walk or roll around Johnson Park, listened to music, played games, won prizes, and ate delicious food at our 5 new food trucks. These food trucks had over 15 types of food including; cupcakes, cookies, Italian ice, burritos, fries, hot dogs and many more, and were free for all walkers and rollers to enjoy. This fun community event attracted hundreds of families who have benefited from the programs at Children’s Specialized Hospital and enables them to give back to the organization that helped their family. Last year, Children’s Specialized Hospital treated over 30,000 patients from birth to age 21 with special healthcare needs at 13 locations across New Jersey.
New Walk n’ Roll chairwoman, Jennifer Weil, owner Style Concierge and mom of three, was instrumental in leading the event committee to yet another record-setting year. “The Walk n’ Roll is an amazing and inspirational event for so many people,” said Jennifer Weil. “My family has helped raise money for Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation every year since our daughter, Cooper, was a patient. This hospital has given so much to our family and were honored to give back at the Walk n’ Roll.”
“This event would not have been possible without the generous support of Jennifer Weil and PSEG,” said Phil Salerno, president and chief development officer of Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. “We all look forward to this event and meeting the families that help benefit our hospital. It makes our hard work worthwhile.”
Todd Pettengill and the DJ’s from the 95.5 PLJ “Todd and Jayde in The Morning” joined the festivities as the 2017 Honorary Chairs and helped give out the top fundraising awards. A special thanks to our presenting sponsor PSEG and additional sponsors; NJM Insurance, Furino & Sons Inc., Ferreira Construction Co Inc., J. Fletcher Creamer & Son. Inc., L’Oréal and JBL Electric, for all your support.
