Local Walmart and Sam's Club Associates, Customers, and Members Unite to Raise $264,000 for Children's Specialized Hospital
January 29, 2018
Walmart and Sam’s Club Associates, customers and members across New Jersey put their money where the miracles are during their annual 7-week Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising campaign which raised over $264,000 locally for Children’s Specialized Hospital. The effort was part of a national campaign for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals which raised $34.7 million for member hospitals nationwide.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Walmart and Sam’s Club working together with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to raise money for kids facing illness and injury in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. To date, New Jersey Walmart and Sam’s Club associates helped to raise over $3 million benefiting children and families treated at Children’s Specialized Hospital, of which, over $331,000 was raised in 2017 alone.
“Walmart and Sam’s Club have been amazing allies in our quest to help all children reach their fullest potential,” said Keely Davenport, Assistant Director, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Children’s Specialized Hospital.
Fundraising efforts have evolved over the last 30 years. While donations at the registers drive most of the fundraising at stores and clubs during the campaign, associates also host creative fundraising events such as contests, bake sales, potluck and family events which build strong relationships in their communities and with their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
“Walmart and Sam’s Club associates’ support for children treated at our partner hospitals has always been rooted in an authentic desire to help kids in need,” said John Lauck, president and CEO, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Their passion is amplified millions of times over by customers and members who believe in our mission to give kids a chance at a better life. Their incredible response to store and club-level fundraising efforts are inspiring.”
Funds raised by Walmart and Sam’s Club directly impact each of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which treat one in 10 children across North America. Hospitals use the funds based on what they need most – typically providing lifesaving equipment and research, supporting top therapy programs and providing charitable care.
“We’re humbled by the overwhelming number of Walmart and Sam’s Club customers, members, and associates who made a contribution to our Children’s Miracle Network Hospital fundraising campaign,” said Joshua Strudl, store manager at Walmart store in Secaucus. “Even more awe-inspiring is the dedication of the team at Children’s Specialized Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network and the great courage of the families and children they serve.”
Children’s Specialized Hospital, a nonprofit organization, is leading the way into a brighter future for children and adolescents facing special health challenges – from chronic illnesses and complex physical disabilities like brain and spinal cord injuries, to developmental and behavioral issues like autism and mental health. Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation supports the programs and services of the hospital and all donations go directly to helping us pioneer new specialized care and serve more children in need.
