Walk n’ Roll Raises over $265,000 for Children’s Specialized Hospital

May 20, 2014

Children’s Specialized Hospital is proud to announce the 2014 Walk n’ Roll for Children’s Specialized Hospital raised a record $265,000.  Over 2,100 supporters filled Johnson Park in Piscataway on Saturday, May 17 to benefit the nation’s largest pediatric rehabilitation system dedicated to treating children affected by brain injury, spinal cord injury, premature birth, autism, developmental delays, and life-changing illnesses.  This year’s funding will help support the $3.5 million expansion of the PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital inpatient unit in New Brunswick, which will allow the hospital to add eight more patient beds, increasing access to the hospital’s highly specialized inpatient pediatric rehabilitation.

Sporting bright tee shirts, painted faces, and big smiles, Walk n’ Roll participants enjoyed a 1, 2.5 or 5 mile walk or roll around Johnson Park. At the free carnival immediately following the walk, families listened to music, played games, won prizes, ate great food, and learned how Children’s Specialized Hospital helps over 22,000 children with special needs each year at 12 different locations.

The day would not have been possible without the generous support of PSEG, the event’s top sponsor. Additional sponsors included L’Oreal USA, J. Fletcher Creamer and Son INC Open Road, NJM Insurance, Burns & McDonnell, and the 50 volunteerswho donated their time and efforts to pull off such a big event. Children’s Specialized also appreciates the day’s in-kind donors, Snapple, New Jersey Family Magazine, Mr. Cupcakes, and Trader Joe’s.

Walk n’ Roll chairwoman Kim Hanemann, vice president - delivery projects & construction of PSEG and Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation trustee, was instrumental in leading the event committee to a record-setting year.

“Our employees, vendors, and all of the PSEG community fundraised for Children’s Specialized throughout the year, and we all look forward to the Walk n’ Roll,” said Hanemann. “We especially enjoy meeting the patients and families that will benefit from our efforts. Their enthusiasm makes our hard work worthwhile. We look forward to breaking new fundraising records next year!”

Last year’s Walk n’ Roll attracted over 2,000 community members and raised over $245,000.
