Feb 1, 2019 Change Your Behavior in 2019

Every New Year, we're burdened with the thought of resolutions. However, it’s not enough to simply create a resolution. We must consider behavior change. In order to be successful, we must think about what is causing our current behavior that we want to change, and the environment that must be changed to support the new behavior. Consider these two principles when trying to change a behavior:

  1. Many habits are maintained by your environment. Consider rearranging your environment to support the behavior you want to change. For example, if you find you are eating ice cream too frequently – stop keeping ice cream in your freezer.
  2. Change the environment so that it disrupts your habits, so you have to think about your behavior. For example, consider rearranging all of the pots and pans in your kitchen. This encourages you to think about cooking and eating. Perhaps even make a purchase that will get you excited about the behavior change.
