Dairy Queen Makes Miracles Happen On August 8 in the Garden State

July 29, 2013

Blizzard lovers in New Jersey shouldmark their calendars for Thursday, August 8. Enjoy a delicious frozen treat this summer and help children in need at the eighth annual Miracle Treat Day, sponsored by Dairy Queen in support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Children’s Specialized Hospital.

Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppele visits PSE&G Children's Specialized Hospital on July 26, 2012 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She is seen here enjoying a Blizzard with patient Timmy Theil.
On that day, $1 or more from every Blizzard sold at participating locations will be donated by Dairy Queen to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a charity that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. Proceeds from the sale of Blizzards at the following participating locations in New Jersey will benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital. The featured Miracle Treat Day “Blizzard Treat of the Day” will be Oreo® which is still the most popular Blizzard Treat to date. The Blizzard of the Month for August in the U.S. is Tripleberry® Brownie, which is made with rich choco chunks, Orange Julius® Tripleberry fruit puree and chewy brownie pieces. All other Blizzard flavors will also be available that day.
The incredible popularity of the Blizzard brand is what led the Dairy Queen system to initiate the Blizzard Fan Club in 2005 and the Dairy Queen Facebook fan page in 2008. Today, the Fan Club is 3.4 million members strong while the DQ Facebook fan page has more than 5.7 million friends. Log on to the website at BlizzardFanClub.com or become a friend on Facebook at facebook.com/dairyqueen.
Since 1984, Dairy Queen has raised over $97 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals – including nearly $5 million from Miracle Treat Day in 2012. The money raised in New Jersey on Miracle Treat Day will support rehabilitative services for disabled children at Children’s Specialized Hospital locations throughout the state.
John Gainor, president and CEO of International Dairy Queen, Inc. (IDQ), thanks everyone who supports Miracle Treat Day.
“When we first decided to host a system-wide event that would involve the entire Dairy Queen family, we had no idea how much impact it would have and how it would grow in size and popularity each year," Gainor said. "Miracle Treat Day has become such a celebration of life and hope, as well as a fundraiser that draws support from local communities of families, neighbors, friends and people from all walks of life who are eager to help the children in their cities and towns who need it the most. The Dairy Queensystem really pulls out all the stops to make this event successful each year.”

Children’s Specialized Hospital is the nation’s leading provider of inpatient and outpatient care for children from birth to 21 years of age facing special health challenges — from chronic illnesses and complex physical disabilities like brain and spinal cord injuries, to developmental and behavioral issues like autism and mental health. At thirteen different New Jersey locations, our pediatric specialists partner with families to make our many innovative therapies and medical treatments more personalized and effective...so children can achieve more of their goals.

About Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada, which, in turn, use the money where it’s needed the most. When a donation is given it stays in the community, helping local kids. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has raised more than $4.7 billion, most of it $1 at a time. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all in support of the mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.
