December 21, 2016

New Brunswick, NJ – December 13, 2016: Children’s Specialized Hospital- an RWJBarnabas Health facility— hosted Miles Wood and Nick Lappin from the New Jersey Devils as they spread holiday cheer by visiting patients and caregivers.

Wood and Lappin met with over 60 pediatric patients from birth to 21 years of age facing special health challenges such as such as brain and spinal cord injuries, chronic illness, developmental and behavioral issues, and complications due to premature birth. They signed hockey pucks, posed for pictures, and handed out fun giveaways like t-shirts, lanyards, and schedule posters to the kids and their families.

“We are excited and thankful for the partnership between RWJBarnabas Health and the New Jersey Devils,” said Warren E. Moore, President and Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Specialized Hospitals. “It is an indescribable feeling to see the children’s faces light up when special visitors like Nick and Miles come to visit. Many of our patients and their families will be spending the holidays with us, so we are always very appreciative of once in a lifetime experiences like this which help make this holiday season a joyful one that they will never forget.”

Children’s Specialized Hospital was one of 10 RWJBarnabas Health facilities visited by the Devils on Tuesday, in an annual tradition of the team visiting local medical centers dating back to 1982– the Devils first season in New Jersey.

Earlier this year, RWJBarnabas Health became an official health care partner with the New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center and unveiled the Center’s practice facility as the Barnabas Health Hockey House. The partnership focuses on unifying and inspiring the lives of the families, neighbors and communities throughout the state. Barnabas Health Hockey House, the epicenter of youth and amateur hockey in New Jersey, provides nutrition and wellness programs developed by RWJBarnabas Health experts and House staff as well as programs that build confidence, sportsmanship and life skills.
