Children’s Specialized Hospital Experts Offer Workshop to Help Parents Manage Child’s Challenging Behavior
August 02, 2016
A child who misbehaves causes a lot of stress on parents, family members, teachers, classmates, and anyone else with whom the child comes in contact. A family may even choose to withdraw from social activities for fear of the child’s actions.
If you have a child who exhibits challenging behavior issues, help is on the way. The pediatric psychologists at Children’s Specialized Hospital have developed a series of workshops designed to help parents manage their child’s behavior in engaging and effective ways.
Over the course of seven sessions, facilitators will introduce parents to an interactive curriculum which includes education on the following topics:
- Causes of misbehavior -- how to assess the causes and develop appropriate discipline strategies;
- Setting limits -- handling tantrums and creating incentive systems that work;
- Managing sibling conflicts;
- Developing and implementing effective behavioral systems; and
- Parent stress management, including self-care and support systems.
Led by instructor Shoshana Isenberg, Ph.D., parents will gain confidence in their ability to manage stress and cope with parenting challenges. While these tools are appropriate for parenting all kinds of challenging children, they are especially helpful when working with children who have been diagnosed with ADHD or Oppositional Defiant Disorder.
