Children’s Specialized Hospital Brings Rehabilitation Services to Children in China Providing Best Practices, Education and Expertise with Historic Partnership
August 31, 2015
With the goal of creating the first-ever model for children’s rehabilitation services in China, a long-term partnership has begun between Children’s Specialized Hospital and LIH Investment and Management, LLC, based in China. To mark the official start of the partnership, a ceremony and information sharing session took place in Beijing August 12, 2015.
The largest health system of its kind in the United States, Children’s Specialized Hospital treats 26,000 inpatients and outpatients each year through 13 locations across the state of New Jersey. LIH Investment and Management is a private company committed to introducing and building leading rehabilitation service delivery systems across China that will help people of all ages return to their lives as quickly and successfully as possible.
Because children’s rehabilitation services had not historically been a focus for Chinese healthcare, LIH quickly saw the value of partnering with the U.S. leader.
“We have a passion for serving children, as well as the expertise,” said Amy B. Mansue, president and chief executive officer, Children’s Specialized Hospital. “We look forward to ensuring children in China get the best medical and rehabilitative care they need, and influencing how healthcare is delivered in that country.”
Mansue attended and spoke at the Beijing kick-off ceremony August 12, along with Children’s Specialized Hospital colleagues Michael Dribbon, Ph.D., vice president of business development and chief research officer, and Christopher Haines, D.O., chief medical officer. Other meeting attendees included members of the LIH Investment and Management team, government officials from the Beijing Health Bureau, and top leaders from healthcare facilities and associations across China.
“This collaboration is a truly unique opportunity,” said Dr. Dribbon. “It is the first time Children’s Specialized Hospital has worked to both provide education and help build a Patient and Family Centered Care model like ours outside the U.S. In addition, the mission, goals, and spirit of Children’s Specialized Hospital and LIH are so closely aligned that we know children in both countries will be able to benefit from the knowledge we share and gain.”
Children’s Specialized Hospital will help strengthen their Chinese partners’ capabilities in children’s rehabilitation service areas such as physical, speech, and occupational therapy; behavioral health; nursing and physician services, especially neurodevelopmental behavioral pediatrics and physiatry.
With guidance from the team at Children’s Specialized Hospital, LIH recently opened its first outpatient site, and is planning on opening additional outpatient sites and an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation hospital over the next few years..
“This is only the beginning of what we know will be a long and successful partnership,” said Dr. Dribbon. “In addition to the training and education components, LIH will send delegates from China to spend more time at our facilities in the U.S., and we will send people from Children’s Specialized Hospital to locations in China for short visits. We want to continue to provide expertise as they open new locations and treat more and more Chinese children with complex medical needs.”
LIH Investment and Management, LLC, is duly licensed by Beijing, P.R.C., as a comprehensive rehabilitation service management and investment company. With a wide range of health care networks both domestically and internationally, the company attracts a professional team with international healthcare backgrounds and experience in investment management of large enterprises.
