Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Recreational Therapy Department offers a martial arts program for children with special needs ages 5-13 years. It is especially for children with ADHD, neurological impairments, and/or problems with balance, coordination, and body awareness. The classes provide instruction on basic martial arts techniques and listening skills. Coordination of movement, balance, body awareness, strength, and thought are also incorporated. This program provides children with an opportunity for positive peer interactions and promotes a sense of independence, confidence, and belonging.
Description of classes:
Level I-Dragon Warriors: Especially for children with moderate to severe neurological, physical, and/or social challenges. Beginner martial arts program focusing on:
Skills will be addressed through modeling & practicing, and physical & social activities.
Level II-Tiger Warriors: Especially for children with mild neurological, physical, or social challenges. Beginner martial arts program focusing on:
Skills will be addressed through martial arts drills, games, and social skill activities.
