Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Recreational Therapy Department offers a martial arts program for children with special needs ages 5-13 years. It is especially for children with ADHD, neurological impairments, and/or problems with balance, coordination, and body awareness. The classes provide instruction on basic martial arts techniques and listening skills. Coordination of movement, balance, body awareness, strength, and thought are also incorporated. This program provides children with an opportunity for positive peer interactions and promotes a sense of independence, confidence, and belonging.
