Health Requirements
One month prior to placement, all students must have a student health physical done by a private physician prior to placement.
 
Tuberculosis Test
  • A two step TB test will be required for all students, done by a private physician or the CSH employee health nurse. All TB tests must be read by a health care professional 48 to 72 hours after being administered. (See Exhibit 2)
  • If the TB test is read as positive, the student will follow up with a chest x-ray and treatment by a private physician and must bring documentation of same to employee health nurse prior to returning to his student placement.
  • Previously mantoux-positive students or those who have had the BCG vaccine will be required to have a chest x-ray taken within the current year by a private physician.
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
  • Students must provide documented proof of blood work immunity or immunization at age 15 months and a booster shot prior to placement. (Individuals born before 1957 are considered immune to measles only).
Varicella (Chicken Pox)
  • Students must provide immunization or documented proof of blood work immunity.
 
 
Flu Shot
  • All Spring students must show proof of vaccination prior to start date. Summer and Fall students must be willing to obtain vaccination or show proof of allergy from physician.

Once the health record is complete, the form will be sent to the employee health nurse. A Medical Clearance form will be sent to the department head when all pre-placement physical requirements are met.
All physical files will be maintained in the employee health office and will remain strictly confidential.
 
 
 
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
 
Students must meet the same physical and cognitive requirements expected of staff for the responsibilities necessary to complete the internship.
