The Department of Neuropsychology and Neuro-Rehabilitation at Children's Specialized Hospital is comprised of a group of highly specialized professionals representing different specialty areas. Our group of clinical and educational specialists is dedicated to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and therapeutic planning of a wide spectrum of neurological disorders which can impact on a child's life in a variety of ways.
Our team of specialists can assist physicians, parents, and teachers in assessing, treating, and understanding disorders such as traumatic brain injury and other acquired injuries that may occur as a result of extended chemotherapy, anoxia, seizure disorders and viral and other illnesses.
The Neuropsychology section of our department is made up of clinical neuropsychologists and school psychologists who specialize in the assessment of brain function and behavior. The comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations assist other professionals in the diagnosis and assessment of the child's level of functioning. With the information gleaned from such reports, meaningful plans are developed to treat, rehabilitate, and educate the child throughout the course of his/her development.
The Neuro-Rehabilitation Program is a post-acute rehabilitation day treatment service available to children with acquired and traumatic brain injuries. It is a comprehensive program, tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient. As a nonacademic program, therapeutic interventions are planned to assist the child in regaining cognitive skills and learning compensatory strategies that are needed for school functioning, as well as addressing the motor impairments that may accompany acquired brain injury or illness.
