Children's Specialized Hospital Autism Program

Developmental Evaluation Ages 1-4

Evaluation for developmental delays and autism is available at Children’s Specialized Hospital. Children ages twelve to forty-eight months are evaluated by licensed medical professionals using standardized assessment measures.

It is important to observe a child’s early developmental milestones such as sitting, walking, language and behavior. Every child develops at his or her own pace, but sometimes certain areas of a child’s development are delayed. It is helpful for parents of young children to understand major developmental milestones to monitor as the child is growing.

The M-CHAT-R™ is a parent completed questionnaire consisting of twenty items designed to screen for autism spectrum disorders in toddlers (i.e., between sixteen and 30 months). A parent can complete the items independently. Screening positive on the M-CHAT-R suggests need for further follow up to determine if the child may be at risk for autism spectrum disorder.
Parents should take the time to talk to their child’s doctor or nurse if they have questions about their child’s developmental milestones. If you are concerned about your child’s development, contact the Children’s Specialized Hospital Developmental Screening Clinic at 1-888-CHILDREN, extension 5226.
