Children's Specialized Hospital Audiology Program
Audiology

Each year, thousands of children whose hearing problems are not identified are adversely affected in their learning and interpersonal skills. Hearing problems may occur as a result of ear infections, injuries, or diseases and can be temporary or permanent. Early identification of and treatment for hearing problems is vital for proper development.

The Audiology Department at Children’s Specialized Hospital provides comprehensive diagnostic and related services for hearing.

The Audiology Department’s comprehensive testing services include:

  • Routine Diagnostic Audiometry
  • Special Electrophysiologic tests including Auditory Brainstem Reponse (ABR) and Otoacoustic Emission (OAE)
  • Central Auditory Processing Tests for children who are seven years of developmental age and above

Parent and family counseling and education regarding the audiologic results are an integral part of our services. Should your child be identified with a hearing loss requiring amplification and special education, we have access to community resources to help meet your needs. In addition, a detailed report will be provided to your child’s physician.
