The Neuro-Rehabilitation Program
Navigating the demands of daily life, school, and/or work is a major concern for a child, adolescent, or young adult who has cognitive difficulties. Cognitive difficulties can be attributed to an acquired neurological injury, and/or chronic illness.
A child or adolescent with these disorders frequently has problems in many areas including attention, concentration, memory, verbal communication, organization, social behavior, and visual information processing. These individuals can develop their own compensatory strategies which, rather than help can actually hamper functioning in academic and social environments.
In addition, for youngsters who have sustained an acquired brain injury or a sudden change in cognitive functioning due to illness, there may be an overall decreased level of functioning in the early stages of recovery. At this stage, a return to school or work can lead to failure, frustration, and social isolation.
