Miss America 2011, Teresa Scanlan, Delivers Blizzards of Miracles
August 11, 2011 - Children's Specialized Hospital

Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, a national goodwill ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, visited patients at PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital and delivered blizzard ice cream treats during the sixth annual Dairy Queen® Miracle Treat Day, August 11, 2011. Today, $1 or more from every Blizzard® Treat sold at participating locations will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®, a charity that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. Children’s Specialized Hospital will receive all of New Jersey’s donations and will help the hospital provide life changing services to children affected by brain injury, spinal cord injury, premature birth, autism, developmental delays, and life-changing illnesses. These special Blizzards were donated by the Dairy Queen in Plainfield, NJ.

“It was a true pleasure visiting the children here at PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital,” said Scanlan. “Seeing the joy on their faces as we handed out the Blizzards touched me knowing that we were able to make their day just a little bit brighter.”

Since 1989, Miss America titleholders have supported Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, helping with fundraising and visiting hospitalized children. Miss Scanlan served as the honorary spokesperson for DQ® Miracle Treat Day.

“Miracle Treat Day has become one of summer’s most celebrated events and something that our customers and franchisees really look forward to,” said Michael Keller, chief brand officer for American Dairy Queen Corporation. “We hear stories from families with children who were patients at a Children's Miracle Network Hospital, as well as from friends and neighbors who are so eager to help. This day of goodwill for children touches all of us in communities throughout the United States and Canada. We appreciate everyone who supports Children's Miracle Network Hospitals by participating in Miracle Treat Day."

The Dairy Queen system is proud to be one of the top 10 contributors to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, having raised $86 million since 1984. Last year on Miracle Treat Day, Dairy Queen locations across the United States and Canada raised nearly $5 million for 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
