November 21, 2013 - Children's Specialized Hospital

Children’s Specialized Hospital is partnering with Kohl’s Cares to offer free over 30 early childhood developmental screening clinics at many locations across the state www.childrens-specialized.org/screening.   Experts from Children’s Specialized Hospital will provide free, quick developmental evalutions in English or Spanish for children ages 1 to 5 years old and share resources for parents curious about early childhood development. This community service is made possible by the Kohl’s Autism Awareness Program at Children’s Specialized Hospital through the generosity of Kohl’s Cares.

Children’s Specialized Hospital is the first hospital in New Jersey to provide free developmental evaluations in the community. Early identification of young children who have developmental delays is key to a timely delivery of intervention services. This screening is the first step in obtaining needed services for young children. Educational materials will be available for families as to what to expect from their children at different ages.
“Children’s Specialized Hospital is committed to early diagnosis of children who may have developmental issues,” said Jill Harris, PhD, director of program development, Children’s Specialized Hospital. “As part of that commitment, we are the only area hospital providing free community screenings to help identify young children who may have developmental delays requiring intervention to help them reach their full potential.”
Each screening will include an interactive questionnaire and conversation between parent(s), child and Children's Specialized Hospital staff. The hospital is proud to partner with Statewide Parent Advocacy Network, SPAN, in this program.
This year, Kohl’s Autism Awareness program will support the Children’s Specialized Hospital Autism Education program, as well as the developmental evaluations. Past hospital initiatives supported through Kohl’s Cares® include Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Friday Night Fever, Adaptive Aquatics, Lightning Wheels sports team, and the Walk n' Roll.
Since 2001, Kohl's Cares® cause merchandise program has, through the sale of its $5 books and plush toys, raised more than $231 million for children's health and education initiatives nationwide.
