This year nearly 200 volunteers braved the freezing Atlantic Ocean in the cold of winter on a snowy Saturday in March. Elks 6th Annual John Sentner Memorial Miracle Plunge “Freezin’ for a Reason” took place Saturday, March 16 at the Asbury Park Convention Center and raised $90,000.
Participants from all over the state took the plunge, raising $90,000 to benefit the Children’s Specialized Hospital, Elks of New Jersey’s Camp Moore, and the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation. The proceeds help support specialized health care for children with special needs; sponsor a fun, enriching camp for special needs kids and strengthen the fight against thalassemia with support for research and clinical excellence.
Shawn Michaels and Sue Moll of the Ocean County Breakfast Show WOBM 92.7 FM are long time supporters of Children’s Specialized Hospital and Shawn and Sue both plunged for the kids.
“We were excited for another great turnout this year,” said Bryon Masterson, southeast district Elks special children’s committee chairman and co-chairman of the Elks Miracle Plunge. “The water was chilly and the snow was blowing, but plungers had fun knowing they are helping children.”
The post-plunge party was hosted by the Elks at Bar Anticipation in Belmar and over 300 guests enjoyed dinner, raffles and live entertainment. Special thank you to Shawn and Sue from WOBM.
