Ice Cream Truck Visits Children's Specialized Hospital Medical Day Care in Roselle Park
July 19, 2013 - Children's Specialized Hospital

Children's Specialized Hospital Medical Day Care in Roselle Park hosted an ice cream social with an old fashioned Good Humor ice cream truck! The kids enjoyed cold treats to cool off this summer.

The Medical Day Care program provides nursing and child care for children who have complex medical conditions, in a nurturing environment that encourages growth and development. The event took place outside the Medical Day Care at Children's Specialized Hospital’s Roselle Park location on Westfield Avenue.

The event was organized by Children's Specialized Hospital Medical Day Care’s head teacher, Robin Halterman, who contacted Tom Gesior from T.G. & Sons Ice Cream in Garwood, N.J. Mr. Gesior is the owner of a classic 1966 Ford Good Humor ice cream truck and his company provides classic style ice cream service to birthday parties, corporate events, street fairs, car shows and many other events.

“Pediatric medical daycare provides skilled nursing care to children who are medically complex and/or technologically dependent.  While the purpose of our facility is to provide care that meets our children's medical needs, it is also our goal to provide them with a typical daycare experience,” said Paris Jackson, Children's Specialized Hospital Medical Day Care manager. “Our ice cream social is just one example of how we try to engage our children and their families through socialization with the community.”

After hearing about Children's Specialized Hospital Medical Day Care and the children they serve, Mr. Gesior was more than willing to donate his time to bring the ice cream truck and summer fun to their children.

"I love being on the truck. I’m putting a smile on someone’s face and that’s the best part about it,” said Tom Gesior. “What else could you ask for?”
