Children's Specialized Hospital Safe Kids Launches “B Hard Headed” Campaign
Promotes Helmet Use When on Wheels in Tweens, Teens and Adults
July 05, 2013 - Children's Specialized Hospital

Children's Specialized Hospital is committed to keeping children safe. According to Safe Kids Worldwide, approximately 55 percent of children don’t always wear a helmet while bicycling, which is why Children's Specialized Hospital Safe Kids Union County is working to make a change.

Children's Specialized Hospital Safe Kids Union County is launching the “B Hard Headed” campaign to promote the use of “hard hats” while riding on wheels, especially in the tween, teen and adult populations. The campaign also promotes the message of improving the image of helmet usage for this age group and hopes to promote prevention of accidental injury.

Children's Specialized Hospital will incorporate this campaign into many community events throughout the county where hard hats, reflectors and helmet safety information packets will be given out. The “B Hard Headed” campaign will run spring 2013 through fall and will pick up again in spring 2014.

"This campaign highlights prevention, community collaboration and positive action. So many of us are joining together to show that injury prevention can be effective,” said Susan Driscoll, community educator and coordinator of Children's Specialized Hospital Safe Kids Union County at Children’s Specialized Hospital. “We are doing this for the residents of Union County.  Join the campaign and let’s work together to put a lid on one of the main causes of brain injury.”

Over 500 hard hats have been donated so far with the help of community partners, including The Union County Traffic Officers Association and Traffic Safety Coordinator, The Freeholders of Union County, AAA, Westfield Regional Department of Health, and the Departments of Health in Clark, Linden, Rahway, and Roselle, the Public Health Nurses of Elizabeth, and the Brain Injury Alliance of N.J.
