Children’s Specialized Hospital Presents ‘Chalk My Autism’ – Everyone, Anywhere Can Participate
March 28, 2014 - Children's Specialized Hospital

April is autism awareness month and Children’s Specialized Hospital, New Jersey’s leading provider of autism services, research and education, is asking you to “Chalk My Autism.”

chalk my autism, autism, autism awarness, april
Anyone, anywhere can “Chalk My Autism” throughout the month of April to get creative through expressive art - using chalk on black construction paper, sidewalks, or even a classroom blackboard, to express their connection with autism and have fun. Everyone is encouraged and welcome to participate, whether you have autism, have a sibling, child, friend or neighbor.
Participating is fun with three easy steps in this month long event. First, express your message with chalk – remember on any surface: sidewalks, chalkboard, or black paper. Next, take a picture to share your art with Children’s Specialized Hospital. Finally, send pictures to chalkmyautism@childrens-specialized.org.  Artwork sent in will be displayed throughout the month via Facebook and Twitter as well as shared at the “Chalk My Autism” event.
Join families, friends, neighbors, and community members at a special celebration on April 11 at Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Mountainside location from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. located at 150 New Providence Road in the cafeteria. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come, have fun and learn about autism. There will be snacks, prizes and live music from “The Neighbors.” New Jersey has the highest autism rate in the country and Children’s Specialized Hospital is leading the fight for early diagnosis, education, treatment, research and community integration. “Chalk My Autism” is one way to get all community members involved in using artistic expression to bring more awareness about autism.
Children’s Specialized Hospital is hosting additional autism awareness events in April including “Light It Up Blue” where Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside will glow in blue lights all of April. Additionally, Children’s Specialized Hospital staff and families from all sites will participate in, “Blow Bubbles for Autism” on April 2 and Children’s Specialized Hospital will host an autism symposium on May 30 at the Pines Manor in Edison www.childrens-specialized.org/autismsymposium.
