Ariana McGuire Named New Jersey’s Champion for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals
Family Finalist in Primrose Schools' Family Dance Off Contest - Vote Today!
March 23, 2012 - Children's Specialized Hospital

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has named Children’s Specialized Hospital patient 9year old Ariana McGuire of Bridgewater as the 2012 Children's Miracle Network Champion for New Jersey.

Ariana suffered a traumatic brain injury from a horrific accident in September of 2010 when she walked into the path of an arrow. Ariana and her family will join dozens of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals child ambassadors, known as Champions, from every state as part of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Champion program. The program brings attention to the important work being done at children’s hospitals by honoring remarkable children like Ariana who have triumphed despite severe medical challenges.

After receiving a complimentary make over from Sweet and Sassy in North Brunswick, Ariana arrived at PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick for a special 80’s style dance party celebration to mark this special announcement and share the news the McGuires have been chosen as finalist in the Primrose Schools’ National Family Dance-off. She was greeted by family, friends, nurses and therapists for a special celebration and the family showed the music video of the foursome rocking out to Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer.”

Their moves have landed them in the finalist round of the third annual Primrose Schools’ Family Dance-off video contest, where a grand-prize includes a donation of $30,000 to Children’s Specialized Hospital. To vote for the McGuire’s video – visit http://danceoff.primroseschools.com/videos/were-livin-prayer and vote March 26 through 30. Winners will be announced Saturday, March 31.

Ariana and her fellow champions will act as representatives of the 17 million children treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals each year throughout the United States. In September, the Champions will travel to Washington, D.C., where they will visit The White House and Capitol Hill to share their stories of medical victory, then to Orlando, Fla., for the Children’s Miracle Network Celebration event at Walt Disney World Resort.

Ariana’s recovery has been nothing but miraculous. The arrow injury led to a massive stroke and an aneurysm, causing damage to the left side of her brain. After being in a coma for three weeks and enduring several surgeries, Ariana came to PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital to regain basic life skills – eating, walking, talking. Ariana’s cognitive abilities were also damaged – upon discharge she enrolled in the Children’s Specialized Hospital outpatient Neuro-Rehablitation program. She continues to receive physical and occupational therapy and has made a miraculous recovery.

"Ariana and her family are the perfect ambassadors for our hospital and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.” said Nicole Fulmino, Children's Miracle Network Hospital program director at Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation. "We have great faith they will win the Primrose contest and we know that they will win the hearts of all of the generous Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals partners when they share their story as our champion family."
