February 20, 2014 - Children's Specialized Hospital

Children's Specialized Hospital was recently honored at the 95th annual meeting of the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA). In front of 600 people representing New Jersey Hospitals and health care providers, Donna Provenzano, director of family centered care, on behalf of Children’s Specialized Hospital, the largest provider of pediatric rehabilitation services for children with special needs in the country, received an Excellence in Quality Improvement award for the hospital’s innovative Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC) program at the New Brunswick hospital. Comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation therapy at PSE&G Children's Specialized Hospital is provided for children following a serious injury, illness, premature birth, major surgery, chronic illness or pain, or any other life-threatening injury.

”All hospitals, by the nature of what we do, are patient focused. Ms. Provenzano and her team have created a partnership with patient families where we are working together, real time, shoulder to shoulder to improve the clinical care and patient experience for every child we serve. Through our family faculty and the acceptance of our staff, we are on our path towards excellence and true partnership to meet the needs of our children and their families,” said Amy Mansue, president and CEO of Children's Specialized Hospital.

The New Jersey Hospital Association, founded in 1918, is one of the largest and most influential healthcare organizations in the state, comprising of almost 400 healthcare organizations. Every year, representatives from these organizations meet at the annual meeting to honor “the best of the best” of New Jersey health care. Receiving an award from the NJHA recognizes the hospital’s outstanding efforts to improve performance that enhances quality, patient safety, and satisfaction with care.

The PFCC program at Children’s Specialized Hospital works to advance the practice of Patient and Family-Centered care through a variety of efforts including: creating a PFCC strategic plan that is incorporated into the CSH strategic plan; having family members on all operational committee's and the Board's Quality committee; and by employing the family members of current or former patients known as family faculty. Children’s Specialized Hospital also has an active Family Advisory Council and has developed a stand-alone PFCC Leadership team consisting of family faculty and clinical and non-clinical staff across the organization.
