A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hurricane Sandy and the recent snow storm have tested our determination, our strength and our wills. The employees at Children’s Specialized Hospital rose to the challenge and we are incredibly proud of our staff, who put our patients first during this storm, despite tremendous hardships in their own families and communities.
 
The Children's Specialized Hospital team successfully met each challenge, power outage and cancelation with ease. Just ten days after the storm, we have opened all of our 10 sites and are continuing the process of rescheduling the over 8,000 therapy or physician appointments that were missed last week. 
 
Many of our New Jersey neighborhoods suffered tremendous damage due to Hurricane Sandy. Our 1,200 employees - nurses, therapists, physicians, clinicians, and administration - were affected in many ways across the state, sustaining losses of electricity, water, belongings, and in some cases, their entire homes. 
 
Children’s Specialized Hospital Relief Efforts for Staff
We often refer to staff as members of the Children’s Specialized Hospital family and in the true nature of family, we support each other during times of recovery and offer hope and assistance as we rebuild our lives. 

Children’s Specialized Hospital has established the first-ever employee crisis account to collect financial donations for our employees impacted by the storm. Your tax deductible donation helps our employees who were affected the most severely. Every dollar donated will be distributed to an employee family to help in some small way to rebuild their lives after the hurricane. Our Foundation has graciously donated $25,000 to the hospital to kick-start the fundraising and allow us to immediately support employees in need.

Staff has volunteered to go and physically help their colleagues empty what is left of their homes. We are creating an ongoing “needs registry” of items people may need as the recovery process continues. This will work like a gift registry so people can tell us exactly what they need and people can purchase these items online, or donate exactly what the family needs. 
 
All of these efforts are still ongoing. 
 
All of the many work hours and energy to create a Children's Specialized’s culture has been demonstrated over the last ten days. Our values: Excellence, Compassion, Innovation, Integrity, Teamwork, and even some Fun has been demonstrated in ways we can't even begin to detail. It has been an extremely difficult time, but one that has brought out the best in our organization.
